30 Smart Cities announced with investment of Rs 57,393 crore; Thiruvananthapuram tops the list
Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu Also Announced A Total Investment Of Rs 57,393 Crore. Naidu Made The Announcement On The Second Anniversary Of The Launch Of Narendra Modi Government‘s Smart Cities Mission.
The government on Friday released another list of 30 Smart Cities for development taking the total number so far to 90 under the Smart City Mission. Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu also announced a total investment of Rs 57,393 crore. Naidu made the announcement on the second anniversary of the launch of Narendra Modi government‘s Smart Cities Mission.Thiruvanathapuram has topped the list, while Naya Raipur is on the second spot. Uttarakhand capital Dehradun appears in the list, while Mumbai did not participate in the competition.The Centre was expected to announce 40 smart cities, but Bengal and Mumbai’s non-participation brought the numbers to 30. 45 cities competed for 40 available slots for smart city but only 30 were selected, said Naidu.With the additional Rs 57, 393 crore, the total number of such cities have reached 90 with a total investment of Rs 1,91,155 crore."All of them will put in place Integrated Command and Control Centres that enable coordination among various agencies for better service delivery and effective management of scarce resources like water and power. So, these are not mere cosmetic changes," Naidu said.

The other cities selected were Naya Raipur in Chhattisgarh, Rajkot in Gujarat, Amravati in Andhra Pradesh, Patna in Bihar, Karimnagar in Telangana, Muzaffarpur in Bihar, Puducherry, Gandhinagar in Gujarat, Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir, Sagar in Madhya Pradesh, Karnal in Haryana, Satna in Madhya Pradesh, Bengaluru in Karnataka, Shimla in Himachal Pradesh, Dehradun in Uttarakhand, Tirupur in Tamil Nadu, Pimpri Chinchwad in Maharashtra, Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh, Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh, Jammu in J&K, Dahod in Gujarat, Tirunelveli, Thootukkudi and Tiruchirapalli in Tamil Nadu, Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh, Aizawl in Mizoram, Allahabad and Aligarh in U.P. and Gangtok in Sikkim.
