After statue vandalism, Periyar, MGR busts scarfed with saffron cloth in Tamil Nadu
Apart From Periyar, The Busts Of Former Tamil Nadu CM's CN Annadurai And MG Ramachandran Were Also Tied With The Saffron Cloth.
After vandalising his statue, a saffron cloth was scarfed to the bust of social reformer and Dravidian movement icon EV Ramasamy, popularly known as Periyar, in Tamil Nadu’s Namakkal district on Thursday.
Apart from Periyar, the busts of former Tamil Nadu Chief Ministers CN Annadurai and MG Ramachandran were also scarfed with the saffron cloth.
Tamil Nadu police has launched a probe to nab the miscreants behind the act.
Earlier on March 7, a statue of Periyar was vandalised at Tirupattur in Vellore following a Facebook post by BJP national secretary H Raja advocating the removal of the social reformer’s carving. The post was later removed from his wall.
Referring to the demolition of Lenin’s statue in Tripura after BJP’s landslide victory in the state Assembly polls, Raja in his post said, “Today it is Lenin in Tripura, tomorrow in Tamil Nadu (it will be) casteist Periyar’s statue.”
