Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Thursday written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking compensation for farmers for crop resident management to check the dangerous trend of stubble burning.
Punjab CM has also requested the Prime Minister to convene meeting of Chief Ministers of the affected States along with the Union Ministers for Agriculture, Food and Environment on the issue.
“Mr Kejriwal is a peculiar person who has views on everything without understanding the situation. There is 20 million ton of paddy straw, where do I ask farmers to store? So Mr Kejriwal doesn't understand this problem,” said Singh.
“Have requested PM to convene meeting of CMs of affected States along with Union Ministers. Just my meeting with Delhi CM resolves nothing,” said Singh.
Earlier, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal urged all government to unite for the cause, saying that the entire Northern India would turn into gas chamber if steps are not taken.
The Delhi chief minister said the issue of crop burning must be addressed.
“The high increase in PM levels in Delhi is not just due to local reasons, people and government of Delhi are ready to take all steps but these steps will not be enough until solution to crop burning is found,” said Kejriwal.
Delhi woke up to 'severe' air quality on Tuesday with a thick haze blanketing the city as pollution levels breached permissible standards by multiple times.
