Amarnath Yatra 2018: Yatra suspended from Jammu base camp due to inclement weather
The Amarnath Yatra was suspended due to bad weather on Monday from Bagwatinagar base camp in Jammu. The pilgrimage was suspended due to the closure of Srinagar-Jammu national highway as heavy rains lashed the valley. ALSO READ | Former Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee passes away
No pilgrim was allowed to proceed towards Srinagar from Jammu, an official said. The 60-day annual Amarnath yatra commenced on June 28 this year and it would conclude on August 26 coinciding the Raksha Bandhan festival. 2,78,878 pilgrims till last evening have paid their obeisance at the cave shrine. However, many pilgrims cancelled the Yatra due to early melting of naturally formed ice at the cave.
