After the Bhartiya Janata Party’s parliamentary board meeting, the party said that Amit Shah and Smriti Irani will contest Rajya Sabha elections from Gujarat.
"Amit Shah and Smriti Irani to contest Rajya Sabha polls from Gujarat," said JP Nadda after BJP Parliamentary meet.
Amit Shah and Smriti Irani will file nomination for contesting Rajya Sabha polls from Gujarat on 28 July.
If elected, Shah will be joining Rajya Sabha for first time. He is presently an MLA in Gujarat Assembly.
The Gujarat Assembly has 182 members. 121 MLAs belong to BJP whereas 57 are from Congress. In the present scenario, both the candidates have big chances to win the election.
The politicial advisor of Sonia Gandhi, Ahmad Patel is also contesting for Rajya Sabha. He support of 47 MLAs. The Congress candidate can get support of 2 NCP MLAs and a JD(U) MLA.
However, there is doubt on Patel’s win as senior party leader Shankarsinh Vaghela has resigned from the party and there is doubt that his 11 MLAs will support Patel.
