Anti-CAA Protests: L-G Anil Baijal Urges Protesters To Exercise Restraint, Orders Delhi Police To Ensure Law And Order
A Delhi Police Head Constable Was Killed During Clashes Over The New Citizenship Law In Northeast Delhi On Monday, A Senior Officer Said.
After clashes broke out between police and violent anti-CAA protesters in North East Delhi, Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal released a statement urging protesters to exercise restraint for the maintenance of peace and harmony. Baijal took to Twitter and wrote, "Instructed Delhi Police and Commissioner of Police to ensure that law and order is maintained in North East Delhi. The situation is being closely monitored. I urge everyone to exercise restraint for the maintenance of peace and harmony."
A Delhi Police head constable was killed during clashes over the new citizenship law in northeast Delhi on Monday, a senior officer said. Ratan Lal was attached to the office of the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Gokulpuri, he said. Several police personnel have been injured in the clashes, he said.
Several vehicles, shops and houses were torched on Monday, a day after clashes broke out between those against and for the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.
