Army troops guarding the Line of Control have scuttled an infiltration attempt by a group of heavily-armed militants in north Kashmir's Baramulla district.A group of three militants attempted to sneak into the Valley from across the border in Uri sector late last night but were effectively engaged by the alert troops forcing them to run back towards the Pakistani side, a defence spokesman said in Srinagar on Tuesday. He said the ultras while fleeing left behind the warlike and administrative stores, which were later seized by the troops during the course of search of the area. The spokesman said Army troops have been put on high alert after receipt of intelligence inputs about likely attempt of infiltration by militants waiting at the launch pads along the LoC in PoK."Suspicious movement was picked up by the surveillance devices of the units at around 2200 hours yesterday. Accordingly, the troops re-adjusted to cover the likely route expected to be followed by the infiltrating column," he said. As the militant group crossed over the LoC, the troops engaged the infiltrating column, forcing them to return back to PoK, he said."It is expected that some of the terrorists could have sustained injuries. Search operations are still in progress," the spokesman said, adding that strict vigil is being maintained on LoC to thwart any such attempts in future. The spokesman said the war like and administrative stores seized from them included an AK assault rifle, four magazines with 45 rounds, a bayonet and a wire cutter.
