A Delhi court on Saturday acquitted 16 Uttar Pradesh cops accused of killing over 40 Muslims and throwing their bodies in Hindon River.Additional Sessions Judge Sanjay Jindal acquitted sixteen Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) from the charges of murder.The court pronounced its verdict after prosecution failed to establish the identity of police personnel involved.In 1987, more than 40 Muslims were picked from the Hashimpura Mohalla and killed during the riots in the Meerut City.In 1996, the chargesheet in the case was filed before Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Ghaziabad. The case was then transferred to Delhi in September 2002 on the order of the Supreme Court following a petition by the families of the massacre victims and survivors.Out of 19 accused three have lost their life during the trial.
