Amidst allegations of fake encounter of 8 SIMI activists who escaped Bhopal’s Central Jail, the Director General of Police has constituted a Special Investigative Team (SIT) to probe the escape of undertrials and their subsequent encounter by the state police.
Eight undertrails belonging to the SIMI had escaped Bhopal Central Jail in the wee hours on Monday after fatally wounding a security guard. The eight prisoners escaped into the jungle in the outskirts of Bhopal. The Madhya Pradesh Police laid siege and challenged them to surrender.
The police alleged the prisoners opened fire. In the ensuing encounter between the prisoners and the police, the men in uniform killed all the eight SIMI activists.

Opposition parties and civil rights activists have raised questions over the police encounter and have demanded a thorough probe into the entire incident.
