BJP tops lists of lawmakers charged with crimes against women: Report
According To The Report, Out Of 1580 MPs/MLAs Who Had Declared Criminal Cases, 48 Had Declared Cases Related To Crime Against Women.
At least 48 parliamentarians or legislators in the country have been charged under crime against women cases in various police stations, with BJP lawmakers having the highest number of cases registered against them, according to a report released by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).
According to the report, out of 1580 MPs/MLAs who had declared criminal cases, 48 had declared cases related to crime against women.
This includes 45 MLAs and 3 MPs, who have declared cases of crime against women such as charges related to assault of woman with intent to outrage her modesty, kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her to marriage, rape, domestic violence and trafficking.
According to the ADR report, 12 lawmakers from Maharashtra have the highest number followed by West Bengal (11), Odisha and Andhra Pradesh each with five MPs and MLAs who have declared cases related to crime against women.
The report further adds that BJP lawmakers lead the least with 12 MLAs booked under women related cases, followed by Shiv Sena, 7, and Trinamool Congress, 6.
The ADR report is based on analysis of 4,845 out 7896 election affidavits of current MPs and MLAs. This includes 768 out of 776 affidavits of MPs and 4077 out of 4120 MLAs across the country.
