Twitter India officials have been summoned by the Parliamentary committee on IT to explain allegations of bias against it. They will present their case on February 11 post at 3 pm. The committee also summoned Twitter India officials on the issue of safeguarding citizens' rights on social media, panel head Anurag Thakur said. Thakur tweeted the agenda of the panel's meeting to be held next week, saying the panel has called representatives of Twitter to appear before the panel on the issue. He also sought views and suggestions from the general public on the matter.Â
On February 3, members of Youth for Social Media Democracy protested outside the office of Twitter India. The protesters alleged that Twitter has acquired an anti-right-wing attitude. "They block our accounts and impressions of the tweets. We won't tolerate this." The protesters insisted Twitter changes its policy.
The parliamentary committee on Information Technology will examine the issue. The panel summoned the Twitter India after Delhi-based advocate Ishkaran Singh Bhandari met Home Minister Rajnath Singh on January 28 and presented an application regarding the matter.Â
