‘What’s happening in Jammu and Kashmir?’: Rahul Gandhi urges PM Modi to come clean
“I Was Called By The CWC Just Now Because Between The Work That They Were Doing, To Choose The Next Congress President, Some Reports Have Come, That Things In Jammu & Kashmir Are Going Very Wrong, Said Gandhi.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to come clean on the reports of violence in Kashmir as the Congress Working Committee (CWC) met for the second time on Saturday evening to take a final call on the new party president. He said the deliberations of the Congress Working Committee on the party's leadership issue were briefly stopped for a presentation on the reports on J-K.
“I was called by the Congress Working Committee (CWC) just now because between the work that they were doing, to choose the next Congress president, some reports have come, that things in Jammu & Kashmir are going very wrong. There are reports of violence,” Gandhi told reporters outside the Congress headquarters.
"We are extremely concerned about the reports that are coming and the government needs to assuage the country and tell the country what is happening in Jammu and Kashmir," he told reporters.
Meanwhile, Sonia Gandhi was named interim Congress president on Saturday, returning at the helm after almost 20 months.
The announcement was made on Saturday night after Congress Working Committee (CWC) accepted Rahul Gandhi's resignation during its second meeting of the day.
A number of leaders, including state chiefs and MPs, backed Rahul Gandhi to continue on the post despite his refusal to reconsider his resignation. However, he did not budge from his stand of quitting as party chief. The CWC then decided to name Sonia Gandhi as the interim party chief.
