'Caste first, then rest' says newly appointed Rajasthan Minister Mamata Bhupesh
Mamta Bhupesh Said This While Addressing A Public Gathering In Alwar District's Reni Town On The Eve Of New Year.
Newly appointed Rajasthan Women and Child Development Minister Mamta Bhupesh has sparked a controversy by saying that her first priority is to serve her caste. Bhupesh said this while addressing a public gathering in Alwar district's Reni town on the eve of New Year.Â
"Pratham karya hamara hamari jaati ke liye, uske baad hamare samaj ke liye, uske baad sarv samaj ke liye, sab ke liye. Hamari mansha yeh rahegi ki hum sabke liye kaam kar paayein (My first duty is towards my caste and the society comes then. My intention is to work for everyone)," she said.
The Congress, who formed the government in Rajasthan by defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the recently held Assembly Elections, has yet to give any clarification. Such statement has been made despite the fact that Congress president Rahul Gandhi has time and again said that his party wants to uproot casteism. "Our fight should be to give equal rights to everyone," Gandhi had tweeted a few years ago.
In Rajasthan, which has 200 seats, the Congress bagged 99 seats and the BJP 73. BSP got 6, CPM 2, Bharatiya Tribal Party 2, Rashtriya Lok Dal 1, Rashtriya Loktantrik Party 3, and Independents 13.
