In Chhattisgarh, the bodies of all 17 security personnel, who were missing after an encounter with Maoists in Sukma district, were recovered on Sunday. The unfortunate development comes a day after a group of heavily armed Maoists ambushed security personnel.
"Bodies of 17 security personnel were recovered by a search team and were being evacuated from forests," Inspector General of Police (Bastar range) Sundarraj P told PTI. He further said that the patrolling teams were near Minpa village forests when a group of around 250 heavily armed Maoists attacked them.
"The gun battle lasted for about two-and-a-half hours, he said. Later, 17 personnel were found to be missing for which a search operation was launched. Today, their bodies have been recovered and the search team is on the way back, the police official added.
It is to be noted that the separate teams of nearly around 600 personnel belonging to the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF) and Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA)- an elite unit of CRPF, launched a joint operation against Maoists after getting inputs about a huge gathering of ultras in Elmagunda.

Lat month, at least two commandos of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and a Maoist were killed in an encounter in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district. Two other security personnel were injured during the fierce encounter.
