Dogra Swabhiman Sangathan Party chairman Choudhary Lal Singh was on late Wednesday night placed under house arrest at his official residence in Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
Dogra Swabhimaan Sangthan (DSS) chief chairman and former minister Choudhary Lal Singh has been placed under house arrest at his official residence. According to reports, heavy security forces have been deployed outside his residence. The Dogra outfit leader was not allowed to move out of his residence for attending a meeting with his supporters to discuss the situation following the abrogation of Article 370.
Lal Singh is the first leader from Jammu region who has been put under house arrest after the historical decision of the Modi government.
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir unit of the CPI (M) condemned the house arrest of mainstream political leaders, including the party's senior leader and former MLA MY Tarigami, in the Valley.
Many political leaders were placed under house arrest on Sunday night, hours before the Centre revoked the provisions of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. Article 370 gave special autonomous status to the state.
"We condemn the unlawful house arrest of all the political leaders of Kashmir, including Tarigami, and demand their immediate release," Regional Secretary of Communist Party of India (Marxist) Sham Parshad Kesar said at a meeting here.
He termed the Centre's decision to revoke Article 370 and reorganise the state into two separate Union territories "undemocratic, unjustified and anti-people".
