A plus two student was fatally stabbed by a gang after he tried to resist a robbery attempt in Madurai, police said on Monday.
The incident occurred when Nagaraj was returning home last night and was waylaid by a gang that tried to snatch his mobile phone and some cash, at East gate area, they said.
Though the victim fought with the gang members, they stabbed him over his thigh and fled with the cellphone and purse. Nagaraj collapsed and died due to profuse bleeding.
There was no one in the vicinity to rescue him and take him to the hospital, police said adding the body was retrieved around midnight and sent for post mortem.
A special team has been formed to nab the gang, police said.
