Congress screening committees for poll-bound Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan formed
Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday constituted screening committees for poll-bound states of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram and Odisha.
Senior party leader Madhusudan Mistry and Rajya Sabha MP Selja were appointed as chairpersons of the panels for Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan respectively.
While Party’s chief whip in Rajya Sabha Bhubaneshwar Kalita will chair the screening committee for Chhattisgarh, Luizinho Faleiro will chair the panel for Mizoram.
In Odisha, party leader V D Satheesan will chair the panel with Jitin Prasada and Naushad Solanki as members.
While Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram go to polls later this year, Odisha will have election early 2019.
“These committees will screen the party candidates for the Assembly elections in these states and will recommend the names of candidates, which will finally be cleared by the central election committee chaired by the Congress president,” the Congress said in a statement. (With inputs from agencies)
