A poster by a local Congress worker demanding Rahul Gandhi’s resignation in Naveen Market in Kanpur led to sharp reactions within the party resulting in the expulsion of the worker.
The poster with the words “Resign Rahul, and give somebody else a chance”, had the picture of former Kanpur MP and ex-minister Sriprakash Jaiswal.
News about the poster led to sharp reactions among local Congress members and leaders who met at the party office here at Tilak Hall.
Responding to the queries on the poster, Jaiswal told reporters that it is a “well-planned plot to tarnish our reputation”.
“Rahul Gandhi will remain Congress’s vice president and we all will work under his leadership to strengthen the party. Rahul is our undisputed leader and nowadays, he is on leave for introspection,” he said.
Jaiswal said he also asked the party’s city unit president Har Prakash Agnihotri to take stern action against those involved in the matter, to which Agnihotri said the worker, Shamimul Haq has been expelled from the party for a period of six years.
