Darjeeling Police recovers arms, arrows from GJM office; outfit calls indefinite strike
Reacting On Raids Conducted By Police, Binay Tamang, Assistant General Secretary Of GJM, Said That They Are Tribals And They Have To Hold Their Traditional Archery Competition. He Alleged That The Police Has Shown Their Traditional Equipment As Weapons.
The Darjeeling police on Thursday raided Gorkha Janmukati Morcha (GJM) office and recovered arms, arrows, and cash. Later, the police sealed the GJM’s Patlabash office.
Reacting on raids conducted by police, Binay Tamang, assistant general secretary of GJM, said that they are tribals and they have to hold their traditional archery competition. He alleged that the police has shown their traditional equipment as weapons.
He further added that their rights, culture heritage, traditions, nothing is respected and it is the reason to demand a separate statehood.
GJM general secretary Roshan Giri said the outfit has given the indefinite strike to protest against police highhandedness. He said the tourists have almost left.
Darjeeling SP Akhilesh Chaturvedi said that they had received information that GJM workers were planning to attack the police and it was the reason that they had conducted raids at several places.
The SP said that they have recovered arrows, mechanised bows, prohibited arms, explosives, other contrabands and huge amount of cash. The police have detained two people in the connection.

The alleged supporters of GJM also pelted stones on police and put a media vehicle on fire.
