2 dead, 2 injured as 10-year-old Dehradun bridge Tons River collapses
The Incident Occurred At Around 5:30 Am In The Morning. A Rescue Team Of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) Reached The Spot To Carry Out Search And Rescue Operations.
At least two people killed and three others were injured after an iron bridge on Tons River collapsed in Birpur near Cantonment area in Dehradun on Friday. The incident occurred at around 5:30 am in the morning when a dumper was crossing the bridge. A rescue team of State Disaster Response Force reached the spot to carry out search and rescue operations. A dumper and few more vehicles were reportedly trapped under the debris of the bridge.
According to police, a dumper and two bikes were crossing the bridge number 9 on Ghanghora when it came down crushing. The dumper and the biked plunged into a 100 feet deep ditch. The deceased have been identified as 22-year-old Shahzad and 20-year-old Zulfaan. They both were the residents of Vikasnagar. Two others, who sustained serious injuries in the incident were Dhan Bahadur and Prem Thapa.
The bridge was just 10-year-old and authorities were investigating the circumstances that led to the collapse. It was reported that the bridge was not in the condition to take a heavy load.
