The Committee Formed To Suggest Metro Fares Said In Its Report Last Year That The Minimum Ticket Price Should Be Increased From Rs 8 To Rs 10 And The Maximum From Rs 30 To Rs 50.
Delhi Metro rail Corporation on Monday announced a hike in passenger fare. The new fares will be applicable from Wednesday, May 10. The new fare slabs are Rs 10, Rs 15, Rs 20, Rs 30, Rs 40 and Rs 50.
DMRC board had last month announced that it will be taking a call on increasing Delhi Metro passenger fares soon. The committee formed to suggest Metro fares said in its report last year that the minimum ticket price should be increased from Rs 8 to Rs 10 and the maximum from Rs 30 to Rs 50.Sources said neither the Delhi government nor the Centre was in favour of any hike before the municipal polls. "Now with the election results out, we can expect some decision will be taken. As per the law, the board has to accept FCC's recommendation," an official said.
Read | Delhi Metro's yellow line services affected after technical glitchThe published report said that NITI Aayog's vice chairman Arvind Pangariya wrote a letter to PMO, he wrote, "At the current level, the fares are inadequate for the provision of high-quality services and maintenance".Pangariya also made a request to PMO to jointly review the matter with the Union urban development ministry. The last fare revision was done in 2009."There is considerable evidence pointing to the fact that without such increases, Metro service and physical infrastructure deteriorate, over time," Panagariya wrote in his letter.The DMRC, in 2015-16 suffered the net loss of Rs 708.5 crore, the ministry informed the parliament.
