Demonetisation weeds out black money looted by Gandhi family for years: BJP
A day after Congress president Rahul Gandhi attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his unrivalled demonetisation move in 2016, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday blasted the Gandhi scion for his vexed remarks on the note ban. The Saffron party said even two years after the demonetisation, there has been a rift in the grand old party because it was adversely affected by the currency swap.
In a veiled attack on the Gandhi family, BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra said the the note ban had hit them the most as the money they looted for years became worthless post demonetisation.
Patra was addressing the media in New Delhi and said, "Two years after the ban, there has been a rift in the people of the Congress. It is natural they will suffer because the black money earnd by the four generations of the Congress became of no use overnight post demonetisation move".
"Today Rahul ji in Chhattisgarh asked 'did anyone saw any rich black money holder get out of a big car and stand in the line during Demonetisation'? Would like to tell him yes we saw you get out of your 4 crore car and stand in line," Patra reiterated while responding to Rahul Gandhi's scathing analysis on demonetisation during his pubic rally in Chhattisgarh's Kanker.
Addressing a public rally in Kanker, the Congress chief reminded people of tough demonetisation days when they had to stand in long queues outside ATMs for hours to withdraw cash.
“All of you were standing in long queues during demonetisation but not one black money holder was seen. Also, Nirav Modi, Vijay Mallya, Lalit Modi and Mehul Choksi ran away from the country with your money," the Gandhi scion added.
The second anniversary of demonetisation kicked up a political storm on Thursday, November 8, 2018, with opposition leaders orchestrating attack against the Modi government over the demonetisation move that resulted in the slowdown of the economy and rise in unemployment.
On the eve of November 8, 2016, PM Modi addressed the nation, announcing the demonetisation of around Rs 16.99 lakh crore in circulation with an immediate effect. The historic step to scrap the existing Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes was taken the BJP government in a bid to curb black money, weed out fake notes and proscribe terror financing.
However, today, two years after demonetisation, none of those objectives have been materialised, the Opposition claimed.
