Dussehra 2017 celebrations: Mysore wears royal look, Palace illuminated to mark festivities
The Mysore Palace Is Lit Up With 1,00,000 Light Bulbs In The Night For The Duration Of The Dussehra. Further, The Mysore Dasara Procession Will Be Followed By The Torchlight Parade.
Dussehra is one of the most auspicious festivals of the country and is celebrated across the country with fervour. Karnataka's official festival is the Mysuru Dasara or Mysuru Dussehra and is celebrated for 10 long days.Â
The grand festival begins on Navratri and ends on Vijayadashmi. These festivities, which began with Vijayanagar kings in 15th century in Mysore City marks it 407th edition in 2017.
The Mysuru Palace is lit up with 1,00,000 light bulbs in the night for the duration of the 10 day festival. Further, the Mysore Dasara Procession will be followed by the Torchlight Parade.Â
On Vijayadashami, the traditional Dasara procession (or Jamboo Savari) is held on the streets of the city, the star of which is Arjuna the elephant.
The procession will also see the participation of 60 cultural groups and 30 tableaux. The event would end with brilliant fireworks in the evening.
Visitors from all over the world converge in Mysore to witness the extravagant solutions. It traces its origins back to mythical history, when Goddess Chamundeshwari of Chamundi Hill killed the demon, Mahishasura.Â
