Strong 6.1-magnitude earthquake jolts Afghanistan-Pakistan border, tremors felt in Delhi-NCR, parts of Kashmir
The Magnitude Of The Earthquake Was Recorded At 6.1 On The Richter Scare And Its Epicentre Was The Hindukush Mountains In Afghanistan, According To Geo News.
Tremors were felt in Delhi-NCR, parts of Kashmir Valley, including Srinagar, and northern Pakistan on Saturday after a powerful earthquake measuring 6.1 magnitude hit the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. Tremors were also felt in parts of Haryana, Punjab, Lahore, Multan and Islamabad and in Upper Dir, Nowshera, Swat and surrounding areas in Pakistan. The epicentre of the earthquake was the Hindukush Mountains in Afghanistan. According to the National Centre for Seismology, the epicentre of the quake was in Pakistan and it occurred at 5:34 PM. There were no immediate reports of loss of lives or property, they said.
Earlier, earthquake tremors were felt in Karachi. The magnitude of the earthquake was recorded at 2.9 on the Richter scale and its epicentre was 15 kilometres north of Karachi.
On Friday, a two-year-old girl lost her life in Palghar when strong tremors measuring between 3-3.5 on the Richter scale hit Maharashtra's Palghar district. Three earthquakes measuring 4.1, 3.6 and 3.5 on the Richter scale hit the district today at 2:06 pm, 3:53 pm and 4:57 pm respectively. The region has been experiencing such tremors routinely since November last year.
Two earthquakes of minor intensity on Thursday hit Uttarkashi district in Uttarakhand. According to the India Meteorological Department, the first earthquake 2.8 on the Richter scale was reported at 11.23 a.m. The second measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale came at 11.58 a.m.
