Apart from the spiritual calling, the aroma of 'prasad' served at the temples act as the magnet for the devotees. People devour over the ladoos, pedhas and halwas of all kinds.
However a temple in Chennai decides to take a road less travelled by breaking through the conventional norms and giving the devotees a taste of modern delicacies in the form of prasad.
According to a media report, Jaya Durga Peetham in Padappai gives payasam a miss for brownies, burgers and salads. The menu and food is certified by FSSAI has an expiry date printed on them. Here, you will actually find visitors slipping token into vending machines to dispense food.

The temple also gives cracker sandwiches and tomato cherry salads, along with "birthday cake prasadam” for devotees on their birthday.
K Sri Sridhar, a herbal oncologist who helped set up the temple, says his idea to serve up desserts and sandwiches as part of the temple prasadam has generated quite a bit of interest among locals and tourists. "The idea was to show that anything that is nutritious and prepared in a clean kitchen with a clean mind can be served to God. It doesn't have to be only traditional dishes", says Sridhar.
