Former PM Deve Gowda offers prayers at hill shrine as he turns 85
Former prime minister and Janata Dal-Secular leader H D Deve Gowda offered prayers at the famous hill shrine of Lord Venkateswara near Tirupati as he turned 85 on Friday.
The JD-S leader arrived at the holy town last night with his family members and offered prayers on his birthday, temple sources said.
Gowda left for Bengaluru immediately after offering prayers, they added.
In a historic power struggle, the Congress-JD-S combine are trying to thwart the BJP government in Karnataka. The BJP was invited by the governor to form the government in the state on the basis of being the largest party in the state. However, the Congress and the JD-S combine have more numbers.
The Supreme Court on Friday ordered a floor test in the Karnataka Assembly at 4 pm on Saturday.
Earlier, a 15-day window was given by the Governor to BJP Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa to prove majority in the Karnataka Assembly.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Friday gave four-step instructions for holding the floor test in the Karnataka assembly on Saturday for the BS Yedyurappa's government to prove its majority.
