Former Union minister and senior BJP leader ND Tiwari admitted to hospital after suffering brain hemorrhage on Wednesday, his son Rohit Shekhar Tiwari said.
Tiwari, a former cheif minister of Uttar pradesh and Uttrakhand was admitted to Max hospital in Delhi's Saket area where his condition is said to be serious.
News agency PTI reported that 91-year-old Tiwari has been kept under doctors observation in the intensive care unit (ICU).
He suffered the brain stroke on Wednesday morning and fell unconscious while having tea at his residence in Delhi.
Earlier a Congress veteran, Narayan Dutt Tiwari had joined the BJP along with his son Rohit in January this year at party chief Amit Shah's residence in Delhi.
Tiwari served as Uttar Pradesh and Uttrakhand's cheif minister and was a Union Minister under Rajeev Gandhi's government. Tiwari was also the governor of Andhra Pradesh but had to resign after a sex scandal.
