Former Union Minister P Chidambaram on Tuesday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech on occasion of Independence Day. He said that Prime Minister expressed concern on Gorakhpur deaths, will he ask someone to take responsibility and resign.
“Prime Minister said GST showed India's capability. It actually showed India's capacity to mess up implementation,” said P Chidambaram.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said sympathies of the entire nation were with the families who lost their children at a state-run hospital in Uttar Pradesh, and asserted that the Centre would leave no stone unturned to extend help to them.
Nearly 70 children, including infants, have died at BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur since August 7. Many of these deaths were alleged to have been caused by shortage of oxygen, a claim dismissed by the state government.
PM Modi also spoke about GST rollout in country. He said the abolition of inter-state check posts after the implementation of GST has reduced time for movement of goods by 30 per cent and saved thousands of crores of rupees.
