Government on Friday withdrew the exemptions it had given to people after demonetisation. On December 8, it announced that the deadline for use of old Rs 500 notes for purchasing railway, Metro and bus tickets is December 10. A day after, government shortened the deadline for same to December 9 midnight.
Narendra Modi-led government had earlier allowed the use of demonetised notes towards payment of utility bills, buying petrol, mobile recharge and others after it announced scrapping of old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes.
Since then the deadline has been extended twice. The government has been continuously reviewing the policy by granting exemptions to make it easier for citizens major heavy cash crunch.
