Harsimrat Kaur Badal denounces renaming Dyal Singh College to Vande Mataram College, cites Pakistan
“This Is Unacceptable And Shocking. How Can You Take Away The Legacy Of Someone Else?' Asked A Furious Harsimrat Kaur Badal.
Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Shiromani Akali Dal Member of Parliament from Bathinda, has strongly opposed renaming Dyal Singh College to Vande Mataram College.“This is unacceptable and shocking. A person who is so keen to change the name of a college must change his own name then he can put all his wealth to create something and give it whatever name he wants. How can you take away the legacy of someone else?” asked a furious Harsimrat Kaur Badal.“Even in Pakistan, they've recognized contributions of Sardar Deen Dayal Singh Majithia and colleges are being run on his name,” she added. The Governing Body of Dyal Singh College (DSC) has renamed the evening college to Vande Mataram College and passed the decision to change evening shift timings to regular college. Amitabh Singh, Chairman of the General Body said, "The General Body passed the decision on making the evening shift as regular college. It has been renamed as Vande Mataram College. This step will help all the students on the evening shift."Pawan Sharma, the principal of the college said, "The name inspired millions during the freedom struggle. It'll also inspire students. There mustn't be controversy on it. People opposing it haven't understood it well. We'll not reconsider it. It's final."
