The 22-year-old Haryanvi singer who was shot dead on Tuesday night had recently updated a video on social media about the death threats she had been receiving.
It is yet not clear if the deceased, Harshita Darhiya, had filed a police complaint in connection with the threats she was receiving.
Dahiya was known for singing Haryanvi folk songs — Ragini.
According to reports police suspect her brother-in-law Dinesh, a gangster, behind behind the killing.
Police said he is serving his sentence in Tihar Jail in Delhi. Dahiya in 2014 had lodged a complaint against Dinesh stating that he had raped her.
Police said, “Darhiya on Tuesday was returning to Delhi after a performance from Haryana’s Panipat. Criminals pumped in seven bullets into her body.”
According to reports, a car overtook her vehicle near Chamrara village. Killers opened fire at Darhiya after pulling the driver and companions out of the car.
