In a huge jolt to Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan, whose name has been cropped up in Panama Papers, the central government has put his name on hold for ambassador of Incredible India.
According to Panama papers, the Bollywood superstar was appointed director in at least four offshore shipping companies that were registered in tax havens.
A Tourism Ministry source had in Janaury said that Amitabh would be the first choice of the ministry for the campaign.
Bachchan is the key face for promotion of tourism in Gujarat which has seen an “upsurge” after he was hired by the state.
Earlier, Amir Khan was removed from the post after his controversial statement over intolerance.
