Intense heatwave grips India: Mercury soars above 40 in April
In The Last Few Days Temperature Has Been Soaring Over 40 Degree Celsius Mark. This Intense Heatwave Can Be Attributed To Westerly Winds From Central Pakistan.
Its only April and the intense heatwave seems to have gripped the entire Northern India already. The summer is at its peak and parts of Northwest India, like Punjab and Haryana including Delhi and NCR are reeling under intense heatwave.
In the last few days temperature has been soaring over 40 degree Celsius mark. This intense heatwave can be attributed to westerly winds from Central Pakistan.
The hot weather in 2016 had claimed 700 lives, according to the Indian Meteorological Department.
Madhya Pradesh
Gwalior, Hoshangabad divisions and Bundelkhand region reel under intense constant heatwave. Highest maximum temperature of 44.7 degrees Celsius was recorded in Hoshangabad district.
Rajasthan
Jaisalmer recorded a maximum temperature of 45.6 degrees Celsius. Barmer soared at 45.4 degrees.
Odisha
Heatwave intensified in Odisha as well with at least 13 places hovering above 40 degree Celsius.
Punjab and Haryana
Mercury here soared above 40 degrees, while Hisar recorded a high of 42.8 degrees Celsius.
Telangana
Absence of major weather system over the hills of North India is another factor that helps heatwave. The MeT department has issued a warning that heatwave is likely to be continued at isolated places in all districts in Telangana on April 16.
While Nizamabad sizzled at 42.4 degree Celsius, Nalgonda recorded 41.2 degree Celsius, Medak and Bhadrachalam each 40.8 degree Celsius, and Hyderabad 40.3 degree Celsius.
