Despite separatists’ diktats to keep the schools and colleges closed in Kashmir, at least 95 per cent of class 12 students appeared in the state board exams on Monday. Due to unrest over killing of Burhan Wani in the valley, the schools have been closed for past four months.
The syllabus for the examinations have been trimmed down by 50 per cent as there were unrest in the valley and curfews were imposed in many areas following the encounter of terrorist Burhan Wani.
In a tweet, Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar has also praised the spirit of students in the valley. He also quoted that when schools were torched, the students responded with 95 per cent participation.
There are also incidents of torching schools in the valley during the unrest. Reportedly, over 30 schools have been torched so far.
Class X exams began on Tuesday in the valley. Both Class X and Class XII exams will end on December 3.
