A jawan of the Indian Army killed a senior officer at Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday night. The jawan and the officer belong to the counter-insurgency force of the army, Rashtriya Rifles.
An Army jawan shot dead Major Shikhar Thapa with his service rifle at Butcher Post in the Uri sector, a police official said.
The killed soldier was at the post of Army Major. The incident is a case of fratricide which involves killing of fellow soldier or superior. Further investigations in the case are being carried out. The incident took place at approximately 2145 hrs on 17 July. 8 RR is currently deployed in Uri.
