Janata Dal (United) on Monday suspended 21 party workers for their involvement in "anti-party activities."

JD(U)'s state general secretary Anil Kumar released a list of 21 party workers, stating that Bihar party president Vashishtha Narayan Singh has suspended these leaders from their primary membership with immediate effect.

Senior JD (U) leader Sharad Yadav’s close aide and confidant Ramai Ram was also suspended and his name was cited on top in the list. Ram was former minister of the state in the state government.  

The step was seen as a corrective measure after Sharad Yadav’s dare Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar openly and expressed his wish to restore Grand Alliance in Bihar.

The Yadav-led faction, which includes two Rajya Sabha MPs and some national office-bearers, has armed itself with letters of support from 14 state unit presidents, Arun Shrivastava, a close aide of Yadav had said. Kumar recently removed Yadav from the post of party’s general secretary.
