Jet Airways flight hijack threat turns out to be hoax, ‘habitual offender’ detained by police

The police have detained a passenger of the Mumbai-Delhi Jet Airways flight which was forced to make an emergency landing Ahmedabad after hijack and bomb scare on Monday.
According to the officials, the detained passenger identified as Birju Kishore Salla is a “habitual offenderâ€.  Earlier in the past, he carried a cockroach on board to create trouble mid-air and blamed the airline for it.
However, Salla had been let off on that occasion after his assurance that he would not repeat such offences in future.
Salla, a Mumbai-based Gujarati businessman mostly travels by Business Class and the officials suspected that he hold some grudges against the airline.
Earlier, civil aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju said the person responsible for the security threat on the Mumbai-Delhi Jet Airways flight had been identified and should be immediately put on the no-fly list.
“Salla was detained by police after preliminary investigation. He was on board the flight which made an emergency landing this morning. It was revealed that Salla had put the threat letter in the plane’s washroom. We will take necessary action against him,†he said.
A Jet Airways 9W339 Mumbai-Delhi flight has been diverted to Ahmedabad following declaration of emergency as per established security procedures due to detection of an onboard security threat.
Security agencies say Jet Airways flight was diverted to Ahmedabad after a threatening note was recovered from the toilet.
