Kashmir ‘integral & inevitable’ part of country, nothing can change this reality: India at UNGA
India on Monday told the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) that Jammu and Kashmir was an integral and inevitable part of it and rhetoric by Pakistan would never be able to change this reality.
During the right to reply, India’s first secretary at UNGA Sandeep Kumar Bayyapu said, “Jammu and Kashmir is an integral and inevitable part of India. No amount of empty rhetoric from Pakistan will change this reality.”
Speaking at a general debate on the responsibility to protect and prevention of genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity, Bayyapu, referring to Pakistan, said, “One delegation has yet again misused the platform to make an unwarranted reference to the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir.”
India’s response came days after United Nations first-ever report on alleged human rights violation in Kashmir and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). In its report, the rights body had sought an international probe against the alleged mass graves across the Valley.
India, however, termed the report "fallacious and motivated" and questioned its timing. It also lodged a protest at the UN, saying that the government was "deeply concerned that individual prejudices are being allowed to undermine the credibility of a UN institution."
