Kejriwal looks for 'way forward' with Centre on pending bills
The Order Came After The Chief Minister Chaired A Review Meeting With The Department To Take Feedback On The Status Of Pending Bills And Objections Raised At Different Levels.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday asked the law department to submit a “way forward” roadmap on legislative bills which are awaiting clearance from the Centre.
The order came after the chief minister chaired a review meeting with the department to take feedback on the status of pending bills and objections raised at different levels.
“Some of the party legislators had raised the issue of salary increase in the assembly session recently. The bill seeking salary increase of Delhi legislators is still awaiting clearance. The chief minister directed the law minister to submit a status report on all such bills at the earliest,” an official source said.
The source said nine crucial legislations passed by the Delhi assembly since the AAP came to power in 2015 have been pending with the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
These include Delhi Jan Lokpal Bill, 2015, Minimum Wages Bill, Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (Amendment) Act 2015 and the Working Journalists and Other Newspaper Employees (Condition of Service), among others.
The AAP dispensation has been at loggerheads with the Centre and has repeatedly accused it of blocking key bills, thereby not letting the Delhi government to function.
