Kerala love jihad: SC directs NIA to probe if there is ISIS hand
The Supreme Court On Wednesday Handed Over The Alleged Kerala 'love Jihad' Case To National Investigation Agency (NIA). The Probe Will Be Supervised By Retired Chief Justice RV Ravichandran.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday handed over the alleged Kerala 'love jihad' case to National Investigation Agency (NIA). The probe will be supervised by retired Chief Justice RV Ravichandran.
The apex court, however, made it clear that it will also talk to Hadiya alias Akhila before taking the final decision in the case.
President of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen Asaduddin Owaisi reacting to the development asked, "If someone chooses to change their religion will they become a threat to national security?"
Earlier in the month, 26-year-old Muslim man Shafin Jahan had filed a petition in the Supreme Court for the production of his wife, whom his father-in-law took away after Kerala HC declared their wedding invalid.
Jahan has sought a stay on the divorce order of Kerala high court which had ruled that he married Hadiya/Akhila after she was radicalized by elements associated with Islamic State and other terrorist organizations.

But Jahan, in his petition to SC claimed that his wife Akhila alias Hadiya was 24-years-old at the time of marriage and she converted on her own and court cannot interfere in the matter.
The Supreme Court had agreed to hear the plea filed by Shafin and sought a response from NIA and Kerala government.
In response, NIA told the top court that it has not started the probe as Kerala Police was investigating the matter. The SC then ordered Kerala Police to share the probe details of the case with the National Investigation Agency.
