A strong earthquake measuring 6.8 on Richter Scale rocked Myanmar at around 4:04pm on Wednesday. Tremors were felt in Northeast India, West Bengal, Delhi-NCR, Bihar and Assam spreading panic among people.According to National Centre for Seismology, a unit of Ministry of Earth Sciences, the epicenter of the quake was in Myanmar at a depth of 58 kms.(Also Read: How to survive an earthquake -safety tips)
The quake struck 143 km (88 miles) west of the city of Meiktila, the US Geological Survey said.There were no immediate reports of loss of life or property in India. But, as a measure of safety and security metro services were suspended for few minutes in Kolkata.
