Heart of Asia conference: Holy city Amritsar under thick cloud of security

The sixth ministerial Heart of Asia conference - Istanbul Process on Afghanistan, began in Amritsar on Saturday. PM Modi will reach Amritsar for the event in the evening.

The holy city of Amritsar, famous for Golden Temple and Jallianwala Bagh, has been put under a thick security blanket in view of the conference.

Director General of Police (DGP), Punjab, Suresh Arora took stock of the security arrangements of the city for the international conference, a senior officer said.

“All security arrangements are in place to avoid any eventuality,” he said.Delegates from participating countries, supporting countries and organisations, including China, Iran, Saudi Arabia and UAE, will visit Golden temple, an official said on Friday. Besides two sessions, there will be bilateral meetings between the participating countries, officials said.

Adviser to the Pakistan Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz is scheduled to attend the conference on Sunday. (With PTI Inputs)
