In what can be called nothing less than a deplorable incident, a woman’s dead body was eaten by stray dogs in a government hospital’s mortuary in Uttar Pradesh’ Lucknow.
The terrifying incident took place at Lucknow’s Ram Manohar Lohia hospital on Sunday. The body was damaged so badly the dogs that it was a challenging task for the authorities to identify the dead person’s identity.
The body was kept in the mortuary for the post-mortem as the woman died of food poisoning.
The relatives of the woman admitted her on Saturday but she died while undergoing treatment. Later, the dead body was shifted to the hospital’s mortuary.
Following the irresponsible behaviour by the mortuary staff, the supervisor, ward boy and mortuary guard have been suspended. The matter is now under investigation.
Stringent action will be taken against the staff for their recklessness and the guilty will not be spared, Director of the hospital Devendra Singh Negi said.
