A debt-ridden farmer allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday in Damoh district of Madhya Pradesh. He took the extreme step after failing to repay the debt due to crop failure. Â
The relatives of deceased alleged that the moneylenders had also threatened to kill him. Â
On November 8, a 42-year-old debt-ridden farmer allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree near his farmland, police had informed.
The farmer, Hamir Singh Lodhi, ended his life by hanging himself from a tree near his farmland in Gopalpur village of the district, Gairatganj Police Station in-charge Rupesh Dubey had said.
The family members had said the deceased, a father of five daughters and a son, was reeling under debt and also facing problems in paying his electricity bills.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan government has been facing criticism over tackling the suicide issue of farmers.
