Masarat Alam's release process began under Central Rule in Jammu and Kashmir, reveals letters
The Issue Rocked The Parliament On Tuesday With BSP Supremo Saying That The Issue Is Misleading The House And That Modi Government Must Present True Facts In Parliament.
Amidst political controversy over Masarat Alam’s release, another shocking revelation hit Modi government on Tuesday.
According to a letter revealed by a news website, Kashmiri separatist Masarat Alam’s release from prison was initiated under Governor’s rule in state.
Mufti Mohammad Sayeed government came to power on March 1, however, two letters indicate that the process of release was initiated on February 4.
This leads to a contradicted stand between BJP govt at Centre and PDP govt in state.
Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday stated in Parliament that the state government led by PDP had not consulted his government.
"Don't teach us patriotism, won't compromise on security. I share the opposition's aakrosh (anger)," he said in Parliament on Monday. Meanwhile, if you check the details of the letter dated February 4, it can be seen that a permission seeking the release of Masarat Alam was sent by the state’s Home Secretary Suresh Kumar to the Jammu District Magistrate.
It was also mentioned that the order detaining the separatist under the Public Safety Act had become void.
Detailing regarding the any fresh ground for detaining Masarat Alam was also asked to which the district magistrate responded in the negative.
Despite the alert in February, no fresh charges were brought against Alam during the 49-day governor's rule. The governor and the police both report to the union home ministry, which raises the question whether Home Minister Rajnath Singh was briefed properly before his statement in Parliament blaming the separatist's release on the state government.
However, the case was delayed and another letter dated March 4, three days after the PDP-BJP government took power, was sent by Jammu district magistrate to the police.
In this letter it is mentioned that Alam's preventive detention had "not been approved by the government" and that he should be released.
After much chaos, the hardline separatist was freed on March 7.
The issue rocked the Parliament on Tuesday with BSP supremo saying that the issue is misleading the house and that Modi government must present true facts in Parliament.
