Mishap averted as Indigo and SpiceJet aircrafts have a near miss at Delhi's IGI airport; DGCA orders probe
Directorate General Of Civil Aviation Has Issued An Enquiry Into The Matter.
Major mishap has been diverted at Delhi airport as two aircrafts came face to face and had a near-miss. The airprox incident,happened on Tusday at Delhi's IGI Airport involved aircrafts belonging to Indigo and Spice Jet, according to DGCA.
Directorate General of Civil Aviation has issued  an enquiry into the matter.
The  airprox or aircraft proximity refers to a situation where in the opinion of a pilot or Air Traffic Services personnel, the distance between the planes as well as their relative positions and speed have been such that the safety of the aircraft involved may have been compromised.  Â
Spicejet issued a statement after the near miss incident. SpiceJet said SpiceJet flight SG 123 operating Delhi-Hyderabad was following ATC instructions at all times at the Delhi airport.
While taxiing, crew observed another aircraft on same taxiway in opposite direction; Acting promptly,crew immediately intimated ATC. The airlines also said that at no stage safety of passengers, crew & aircraft was compromised and all concerned authorities were immediately informed.
Indigo has also issued a statement on the incident. Indigo said, the flight 6E-769 (Lucknow – Delhi) while taxing in at Delhi airport on Tuesday morning, observed another aircraft in front of it.Â
Following Standard Operating Procedures, caption-in-Command took the decision of switching off the engine & reported incident to ATC, added Indigo.
