Gautam Gambhir's powerful video-message bats for Gurmehar Kaur, blasts those mocking her 'freedom of speech'
Gautam Gambhir On Wednesday Came Out In Support Of Delhi University Student Gurmehar Kaur's Views By Posting A Powerful Video On Social Media.
Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir on Wednesday came out in support of Delhi University student Gurmehar Kaur's views by posting a powerful video on social media. The Delhi-based cricketer backed Gurmehar's views she expressed through her Facebook posts.
Gurmehar, a student of the Lady Sri Ram College, created quite a flurry when her Facebook post on February 22 went viral. The post was written along with a video after Ramjas College in Delhi University was rocked by violence following clashed between two students' political organisations.
However, Gurmehar's words courted a controversy of sorts from different sections of the Indian society. There were angry outbursts on social media against the 20-year-old Delhi student.
Gambhir, known for direct approach on social issues, said freedom of expression was absolute and equal for everyone. "High time we learnt that and practiced it daily in every sphere of life," he said. (Sehwag clarifies his tweet was not meant for Gurmehar)
In the video, Gambhir sends out a crystal clear message and said even those opposed to Gurmehar's views should refrain from mocking her - that, he said, was a despicable act.
"I have the utmost respect for the Indian army. Their service to the nation and us all is unmatched. However recent events have left me disappointed.
