Breaking the monotony set by previous governments of honouring Padma awards to celebrities, Modi government is looking to give away the prestigious awards to lesser-known peoples.
According to sources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to implement suggestions and names received on his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ show for the making the list of Padma awards for the year 2017.
In a meeting, a 9-member committee on January 5 short-listed 150 names most of which related to topics and persons, PM Modi has mentioned in his Mann Ki Baat address.
Sources also reveal that the committee can cut-down 25 names from the list, which will make it a list of 125 names for the Padma Awards 2017.
