MP temple stampede: Scindia demands action against guilty
Union Minister Of State For Power Jyotiraditya Scindia On Monday Demanded Action Against Those Responsible For Stampede Near Ratangarh Temple Here.
Union Minister of State for Power Jyotiraditya Scindia on Monday demanded action against those responsible for stampede near Ratangarh temple here.
115 people were killed and over 100 injured in the stampede near the temple on Sunday following rumours that a river bridge the devotees were crossing was about to collapse.
Alleging that setting up of an inquiry commission by the state government was a mere facade, Scindia said here, after visiting the stampede site that, "I am sure that nothing will come out from the inquiry commission which has been promised by Shivraj Singh Chouhan."
He said that the time has come for Chouhan to take immediate action against those responsible for Sunday's tragedy.
A similar incident had taken place in 2006 at Ratangarh and then too a judicial commission had been set up, said Scindia, who is the chairman of Madhya Pradesh Congress Poll Campaign Committee.
No action had been taken on the basis of the report of the judicial commission then, he said, while expressing apprehension that the same thing may happen again.
Scindia said he was surprised that a large number of vehicles had been allowed entry into Ratangarh despite model code of conduct being in force in the poll-bound state.
Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in state Assembly, Ajay Singh demanded in Bhopal that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan should resign following yesterday's stampede.
He alleged that Chouhan had not made public the magisterial report in connection with a similar mishap at Ratangarh in 2006, to save those responsible for the death of 56 people at that time.
He said Chouhan cannot evade his responsibility by removing district collector and SP.
Alleging double standards of the state government, Ajay said Rs two lakh compensation was given to victims of Salkanpur temple tragedy and only Rs 1.5 lakh to those who died on Sunday. He demanded that Rs five lakh each be given as compensation to the kin of the deceased.
