Resident doctor at Sion Hospital allegedly attacked by a patient's relatives last night on Wednesday. After the incident police registered a complaint against 3 women.

Nearly 40,000 Maharashtra doctors decided on Wednesday to go on an indefinite strike to support their colleagues agitating over the lack of security to them in the government hospitals.

The 40,000-odd doctors, all members of the Maharashtra chapter of the Indian Medical Association, decided to shun work and join over 4,500 resident doctors in the state, who have been staying away from the duty for the last three days.

Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors is holding a meeting with Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis at Mantralaya in Mumbai .

Speaking on the matter in the state legislative Assembly, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis said we will take strong legal action against those who attack doctors & will ensure doctors' security.

“We are protesting the Maharashtra government’s decision to ignore our demand. We are only seeking immediate deployment of the security personnels at all the government hospitals and restrict the entry of patients’ relatives to only two (per patient).

“Instead of implementing it, the government is issuing warnings to us. Hence, the IMA has decided to extend its support to the resident doctors and go on the indefinite strike,” said Dr Sagar Mundada, the chairman of IMA’s youth wing.

Showing solidarity with the protest of the resident doctors in Maharashtra, about 40,000 doctors in Delhi also went on a mass leave on Thursday. Doctors of hospitals such as AIIMS, Safdargunj and RML are protesting. The protest in Delhi is reported to affect the medical services of about 40 hospitals and 2000 surgeries are likely to be postponed.

MARD (Maha Assoc of Resident Doctors) files affidavit in court saying they're ready to for duty but want surety of safety from government and administration.
